Update On Josh 1/21/2017
Last week we shared some really big news. Josh's status was upgraded from "vegitative" to "minimally conscious". We are elated and know that you all are too! I want to add to that good news. On Tuesday they started "capping trials" where they began capping his trache. On the first day the doctor said, "let's try for 15 min and see how he does." Three hours later he was still capped. The next day it was 7 hours, followed again by 10, then 11 hours. Today we are shooting for 14! The staff will consider 24 and 48 hour trials next week. If he passes those trials, the trache will be removed!
Josh continues to move his hands and feet more and more. He is making more and more sounds. He also had an eye exam this week and the doctor got so tickled with his progress that she giggled out loud. We have gone on "walks" every day this week in his wheel chair for a total of 9 hours. He has even begun to react to manderine oranges on his lips. Every therapist and nurse that has worked with him has shared things they are beginning to see. Some refer to him as their little brother. And we truly feel like the nursing staff has become part of our family.
Thanks for being such a wonderful cheering squad and being "All in for Josh!"
"Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumberance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." Hebrews 12:1
